Psychology: all about my education
Introduction to the Psychology section of this publication.
I know quite a lot about psychology and the behavioral sciences. I also know a a huge bit about philosophy. How do I know about all of this and what is my education in? Here I want to explain why I’m qualified to talk about psychology online, at least a bit and to some level!
First of all, I’m not a doctor/psychiatrist or a psychologist, nor am I licensed in my field. However, I have an accredited education, even if I don’t have a license. I have a diploma of higher education in social work (from Distansinstitutet in Sweden), and right now I’m studying the behavioral science with a focus on psychology, cognitive behavior therapy and neuroscience. I study on Cady Training Academy in Gothenburg to become a therapist. The neuroscience part is mainly a few extra courses offered by different universities at Coursera, which I take to support my formal education at Cady.
When I’m finished in 2024, I will have a certification as a behavioral therapist. I don’t think I will be licensed, but I will have accreditation and have the right to work with clients with mental health problems and disabilities.
After I’m a therapist I will study a few courses in certain fields to gain more expertise in helping survivors of trauma and domestic violence and also children and adolescens with trauma. I want to focus on trauma recovery as a behavioral therapist.
I will also study basic medicine just to know a bit about it even if I’m not going to have the permission to prescribe medication or give any medical advice. I simply want to learn about it to understand the brain and its disorders better so I can do a better job with the psychological stuff.
For fun, I’m actually also take some courses in philosophy, life coaching, metaphysics, world history (mostly archaeology) and spirituality. I use distance learning on Coursera, Centre of Excellence and several other learning plattforms for all of those.
I have a certification in different kinds of life coaching already too. Especially in CBT, Therapeutic Art and Spiritual coaching. I got my certification from Transformation Academy (mainly taught via the learning platform on Udemy). The instructors on that academy has a PhD and are also very experienced in their field of life coaching and psychology.
A few of my certifications.
But not all my certifications are included, I have diploma in illustration and other such subjects but they are not included here…
Social Work at Distansinstitutet in Sweden.
Life Coaching in CBT, therapeutic art and spiritual development at Transformation Academy.
Certification in various therapies such as Gestalt Therapy, DBT, REBT, ACT, Psychodynamic Theories in Psychology etc from various instructors including licensed psychologists and PhD:s on SkillSuccess, Adams Academy/iStudy and Udemy.
Music for Wellness, course by Berklee College of Music at Coursera.
I also did study basic philosophy at the community college in my home town, but it was just an individual course and not toward a degree or certification.
So since I’m studying all of these different subjects I think I have enough knowledge to share them here in my publication. I don’t think one need to be a medical professional or even have a very high level of education to talk about psychology and philosophy, as long as they understand what they’te talking about, then they have the right to talk about it!
So that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
These topics have always fascinated me a lot. I will write both about what I have learned, but also my own ideas and approaches and methods I have came up with and developed myself.
In the next post I will write about my approach to life and some methods and theories for personal developement I have created.
In a future post I will also give tips on the best and most affordable learning platforms online if you are interested in distance learning.
